ONLINE LESSON FOR 4 APRIL: EXPOSITORY WRITING

1)Racial slurs should be illegal.Do you agree? I feel that racial slurs should be illegal. There are many different races in this world, and they all have different views. If all of them are racist towards each other, would peace ever happen? I feel that the answer is no. Different races should respect each others views and live in harmony. Racism is a very sensitive thing, and by being racist, they are violating human rights. Therefore, it is best to stop these slurs by using the law.

2)When I was in primary school, a group of my friends and I, all Chinese, went to the canteen drink stall to buy drinks. After we had bought the drinks we headed to a seat. Just then, an Indian boy ran and bang onto one of us. The juice spilled onto the ground, but did not spill on us. The boy repeatedly apologised and paid for the cost of the drink. However, we did not let the matter rest. We repeatedly called him "niggro" and "charcoal". He felt very upset and he quickly ran off.

The next day, our form teacher called us to see her. Apparently the Indian boy had reported to the teacher. Our form teacher scolded us severely and we were punished by removing our recess for a day. Then, she explained that although the boy had bang onto us, we should not do this to him. The boys was at fault first, but what we did was even more serious. She said that racial slur is a very sensitive thing and we can get ourselves in deep trouble if we insulted others in public. She also told us that we should stop this act immediately and prevent it from being a habit of ours.

As I grew up, I started to understand how being racist can bring us into deep trouble. If we made racist remarks or slur at others in public, once we are caught, the law has the right to deal with us. As a more mature boy now, I realised how inconsiderate I was then. We should respect and help other races, and not be happy at other's expenses. Different races should live in harmony and together we our identity should be nationality, and not race.
