LA photo taking assignment (online learning)

2)
a) There are green leaves surrounding the entire shelter, making the shelter a comfortable place with fresh air.
b) The leaves from the plants rustle in the winds, and some old weak leaves left the plants to move with the wind.
c) The perfect shade made by the shelter made it a wonderful place for one to rest.
d) The shelter was "rubbish free" and the entire environment was very clean.

4) Plants surrounded the entire shelter, filtering out the bright shine form the sun, into light green shine, also, the surrounding plants provided a steady supply of oxygen for anyone resting at the shelter, like an unlimited supply of energy boost. The leaves from the plants rustle in the wind, and with the addition of wonderful sounds from birds, the result is like a masterpiece from a classical musician, with the addition of leaves moving with the wind, the entire picture is just like a world-class performance.

6) Plants surrounded the entire red shelter, filtering out the bright shine from the sun, and turning them into weak green shine, beautifying the entire white surface surrounding the shelter. The plants are like energy suppliers, providing a steady supply of oxygen for anybody resting in the shelter, filling the entire shelter with fresh air, allowing one to enjoy every moment under that shelter.

7) Plants of great variety surrounded the shelter. The different darkness of the leaves of different plants filter out different amount of light from the bright shine from the sun. Some leaves are too thin and filter smaller amounts of light, providing a strong, light green shine on the ground; others are thick enough to filter more amounts of light from the bright white shine of the sun, reducing it to just weak green shine of the ground. Some plants also produce other colours like purple, yellow and red. Different brightness of different colours spread out through the plain white surface of the ground outside the shelter, providing a wonderful mixture of colours on some areas, and shadows blending with colours on other areas. The entire mixing of colours resulted in an unbelievable blend of many different colours that formed strange patterns when in contact with each other. This is just like a wonderful masterpiece from a great artist.

However, the roof of the shelter was not so lucky. It had endured many years of intense heat from the sun's violent rays, resulting in dark scars, as black as charcoal, on some areas on the roof, depicting the tough life of the roof. No matter how much sun's rays there are, the roof was still able to hold on to itself and none of the tiles were broken or had detached form the roof.

The plants the surround the shelter are also like guardians of the shelter, providing a steady supply of oxygen. They are just like energy suppliers that supply an unlimited amount of energy to refresh anybody resting in the shelter. The plants produced a great amount of oxygen, filling the entire shelter, and even the entire area around the shelter with high concentrations of oxygen, refreshing even the most tired of animals. The oxygen-filled shelter was "free-for-all", and allowed anybody resting there to enjoy every moment he or she spent under the protection of this shelter, ensuring that nobody would regret resting here.

Found poem

White hands and a jutting chin,
and hair so dead and thin.
He’s gotta wide mouth,
and eyes so grey that they looked blind.
Delicate indentations,
at his temples.
Feathers top off his head,
Cheeks so thin close to hollowness.
Such is the appearance of Arthur!
His the one that arried Bob ewell,
and flung him to the ground!

Specific sensory details of the neighbourhood where I lived in

In the place where I lived in, there are few places where I liked to hang around. One of them is a park which is five-minute walk away from my house. Whenever I walked into it, the smell of flowers and fresh air rushed into my nose, down my lungs, and my whole body was energetic. The beautiful trees swayed in the wind, and the sound from birds are so nice that it is comparable to famous songs. When I touch the leaves from the trees, there are dews, and when I was younger, I used to collect the dews as a hobby. There are monkey bars, playgrounds, and a running track perfect for jogging. There is also a shopping mall near my house. The great variety of food and snacks made it a perfect place to have lunch. The food are sold at a reasonable price, and the food in the malay stall is exceptionally delicious.

Write about a vivid childhood memory of an event that helped influence the person you are today

This incident happened when I was very young, at about five years old. My father brought me to upper peers reservoir and showed to be how to build a basic structure of a stool, using nothing but sticks and grasses. He made use of a few sticks to construct a structure which is so strong, I could not tear it apart although I used both hands! He told me that when we know how to use things around us to help us, they can be the greatest tools as we do not need to find them, and we can reach them at ease. This incident shaped me as a person that adapts well, and a person that is efficient when doing things. Whenever I am exposed to a new surrounding, I observe the things and people around me, which could help me. I was more efficient in doing things like homework, when I made use of online resources, and when I observe the method of understanding key points, it helped me understand the formulas and methods easier.

Tolerance showed by Jem in To Kill A Mocking Bird

Throughout the whole story, Jem had showed great tolerance, and after some group work, we came up with a few areas where Jem showed great tolerance. Jem was able to mentally had physically accepted the consequences of an incident, which caused him to be injured permanently. He bore with the injury and tolerated the pain of the serious injury, and moved on with life. He did not feel that he was hopeless and disabled as he was able to tolerate the emotional impact of the incident. He also showed tolerance to his sister, by taking her to school and tolerating her nonsense. He also had a very strong tolerance with the things around him and is not easily angered. He was able to calm down when he was very angry as he tolerated the prejudice against Tom Robinson. Jem spent precious time to read to Mrs Dubose, only to receive negative remarks from her. However, he did not retaliate and continued reading. He had tolerated the words and comments from Mrs Dubose. The above traits all indicate that Jem was a person capable of tolerating many things, and act wisely, unless seriously insulted, like when Mrs Dubose scolded his beloved father badly.

LA Singaporean short story

“Wow! Ninety marks! I wonder how much James scored this time”, I thought to myself. This was the first time I had scored such a high mark for my science test and I was filled with absolute confidence that my long time competitor, James, would not stand a chance against me this time. I walked with high hopes towards James, and requested to take a look at his test paper. He rejected me, turned his face away from me, and said “Go away. Do not disturb me. I am in no mood for this.” I sensed his reluctance, and backed off. However, deep down inside me, I was overwhelmed with curiosity. Why did he hide his score? Why was he in a bad mood? What was his score? Questions filled my entire conscious mind. Being a typical Singaporean, I just could not control my desire to poke into the privacy of others. When the time for recess came, I saw an opportunity to strike, and went on to do what I always do best.

James scored a mere ten marks and the pages of James’s paper were filled with crosses and zeros. I could not believe my eyes! It was as if I have taken a different test paper! I simply could not believe that this was James’ paper. The handwriting was so untidy and the answers did not seem to answer the questions. I turned to the first page to double check, and to my shock, I saw James’ name. Just at that moment, from the corner of my eyes, I saw a figure coming, and with closer examination, I knew it was James. I reacted immediately by placing his test paper on the floor, and picked it up again. When he did not express any form of anger, I knew that James did not notice my suspicious behaviour, thanks to my reactions which were faster than reflexes.

“Thanks for taking up the test paper for me.” James said, while taking the test paper from me.

“Never mind one lah, brother. What are friends for?” I said, while giggling in my heart.

Throughout the entire day in school, James did not have the slightest suspicion, and he went back home after school ended. Once he had left the class, I released all my desire to gossip with a few of my friends. The discussion about our top student doing so badly in this test was so interesting that even some people from other class joined in the discussion. We had a very fun time gossiping about James, but we find nothing wrong in our doings. After all, most Singaporean does this. This is what that makes us unique, and we find the act of gossiping acceptable. For some reasons, talking about other people’s personal matters was one of the things that we hungered for, and we simply could not resist the temptation to be busybodies.

When James entered the classroom the next day, people started calling him names like “Ten marks!” They also keep bothering him with questions like “Ten is my lucky number, is it yours? You like ten?” We had great fun making fun about James, when James sprang from his seat and punched a boy that was making fun of him. Within seconds, the noisy classroom quietened down to pin-drop silence. The mouths of many students widened, and the eyes of many students stared James and the boy in shock. The boy that was hit moved a few steps back, and sat on a chair. There was a huge “punch mark” on his face near his mouth, and his white teeth was stained with crimson blood. Seconds later, tears of pain and shock flowed out of his eyes. The boy screamed and yelled hysterically, and anyone could tell that he was in a state of shock.

The silence was broken by sounds of footsteps arriving, and before anyone could react, our form teacher, Ms Oh arrived. She screamed, “Oh! Oh! What happened?” The next moment, she positioned her eyes on the injured boy, as well as James. She told the two of them to move out of the class and she spoke to them. This time, however, all our Singaporean style of being a busybody vanished miraculously, and surprisingly, nobody spoke a single word. We waited patiently for Ms Oh to settle the incident. When Ms Oh entered the classroom, I knew I was in deep trouble from the expression on her face.

I was scolded for being such a busybody and spreading the news to others, which caused James to feel hurt. I was also “awarded” four demerit points. Ms Oh later explained the whole incident when James agreed to it. James father had just passed away the day before the test, and James had accompanied his father on his father’s last journey. As a result, he did not sleep for twenty four hours and was in no mood for the test. Thus, he scored badly for the test. As such, we all agreed to give James a second chance to do the test as we were very upset about death of his father. Ms Oh also agreed on that and James was given a chance to redo the test.

After this incident, James was never as close to me as before. I deeply regretted on my wrongdoings as it affected my deep friendship with James. I realised how fragile friendship could be. I regretted that I sacrificed a deep friendship for a mean act on somebody. This was a pain lesson , but I learned to respect others and control my emotions as well as my actions, and not let my emotions overwhelm me. As a Singaporean, I was always very scared about losing out on any detail. However, through this incident, I learned that there are times when we should control our words and show respect and care for others, in order to prevent miseries from happening.

A description of the setting of a scene from my favourite movie.

My favourite movie is "Kung Fu Hustle". The scene is where more than a hundred people, led by an evil kung fu master attacked good kung fu master. The opponents was armed with hammers but the kung fu masters were armed with only fist, and great techniques. There were many people rushing to kill the good kung fu master but to no avail. The atmosphere was that of a "life and death situation". All the opponents were wearing black clothes and pants, which looks very mighty and also further enhances the rage and power of the opponents. The good kung fu master wore a white shirt and black pants, and was very calm. The situation is very intense as at any moment, the kung fu master did not have any weapons, and was surrounded and attacked from all directions.

Fourite character in To Kill A Mocking Bird

My favourite character in To Kill A Mocking Bird is Atticus. To me, he is a responsible and a persons who believes in justice. He helped others and has no prejudice against anyone. He is also a very talented laywer, that makes use of words to influence the feelings of people in a court. The reason he is so memorable is that he is able to be calm even when faced with death, and I find that very amazing.

My favourite fictional character

My favourite fictional character is sandman from the movie, "spider man three". I chose him as my favourite character as I feel that he had a very important characteristic in him, which is the ability to stand up after every downfall. I feel that this is very important in life too, as we cannot possibly give up when we loss or failed, but instead we must stand up and fight again, success is possible only when we have determination. Only when we persist regardless of failure, we stand a chance to win.
