We had many men
We had many planes
We had many tanks
But the Japanese had brains
Zero fighters filled the air
Flying coffins dropped down dead
Two great ships were on the guard
But flying fighters send them sunk
We had anti-tank guns
But they failed to work
We prepared for tanks
But there came bikes
The white flag was raised
The Japanese flag waved
Banana notes filled our land
Black markets roamed at night
You can say Japan is smart
You can say Japan is strong
But a fat man and a little boy ended their war
And we were freed from horrible hell
I think that this poem is very interesting as it talks about World War 2. The way you illustrate the poem was also quite interesting and I was very engrossed in the poem when I was reading it as it the poem could really capture the reader's attention.
ReplyDeleteI think that the poem has done a great job in telling the story of the fall of Singapore and how it ended. Also there are many ironies in this poem which I feel that reflected the irony of the fall of Singapore the impregnable fortress. Hence I feel that this Poem has done a great job in conveying the feelings and happenings of the fall of Singapore.
ReplyDeleteI feel that the poem about World War 2 was well done. The poem was easy to understand. What really impressed me was that the poem was able to explain how Japan invaded Singapore, why we lost the war and how the Japanese occupation ended in just a few stanzas. The poem also had a few ironies in it and these ironies make the poem more interesting.
ReplyDeleteI feel that in the last stanza where you wrote "But a fat man and a little boy ended their war", you should have stated that they a bombs because if a reader with no background knowledge of World War 2, they will not know what is "fat man" and "little boy", they might think that it was a fat man and a little boy who ended the war.

I feel that the poem written was a nice one. You used the poem to explain how Japan invaded Singapore and also how Japan lost the war in the end. You used lots of ironies in the poem to allow the reader to enjoy the poem such as in the first 4 stanzas, the fourth stanza, you wrote "But the Japanese had brains". The poem is very simple and it is easy to understand what it is about.
