Social media has made us less social. Do you agree?
I feel that social media has not made us less social. According to Kavanaugh & Patterson, 2001, Internet use can lead to increased communication with local friends. Another research on social media by Katz and Rice (2002) shows that Internet use expands interactions with social networks, and thus increases the sociability of a person. When we use social media, we are actually engaging ourselves in a type of communication, and we can train our communication skills and increase our sociability by using social media. Therefore, social media has not made us less social as it actually makes us even more sociable.
